Invisalign Clear Aligners vs. Metal Braces
Our patients often wonder which is better for them: clear aligners or metal braces. When comparing Invisalign to traditional braces, it's obvious that Invisalign has strong advantages, like:
A Nearly Invisible Appearance
Invisalign aligners are made from clear plastic. There are no visible wires or brackets to see when you smile, laugh, or talk. This can make you feel more confident in social situations.
Mealtime Removability
Regular braces are fixed to your teeth, meaning certain foods can damage them. Invisalign aligners are removable, so you can eat and drink whatever you want, whenever you want.
Better Oral Hygiene
Brushing away food that gets stuck in braces can be difficult, which can lead to decay. Since Invisalign uses removable aligners, brushing and flossing are more effective.
Fewer Appointments
Patients with braces have frequent dental appointments with an orthodontist for wire tightening. This can be inconvenient and costly. There is no tightening involved with Invisalign, and you can expect fewer appointments throughout your treatment.
Improved Comfort
The brackets and wires in metal braces can irritate gum tissue and the inside of your cheeks. Invisalign aligners may feel snug at first, but once you get used to them, you may forget they are even on your teeth.

Candidacy for Invisalign Treatment
Degree of Misalignment
These clear aligners are designed to address cases of mild to moderate misalignment. If your teeth are more seriously misaligned, you will likely need treatment with traditional orthodontics. We can connect you with an orthodontist in Vancouver if we determine that Invisalign isn't the best choice for you.
TMJ Disorder or Grinding
Because TMJ disorder and grinding can affect the health of your teeth and gums, it needs to be treated before we can consider clear aligners. Fortunately, typical TMJ oral appliance therapy is a lot like wearing Invisalign — so it will easily get you into the habit. It also has the added benefit of protecting your teeth from breakage or even infection.
How Long Will
Invisalign Take?
/
Depending on your misalignment and the number of aligners you need, full Invisalign treatment at our Vancouver dental office could take 12 months or longer, similar to traditional braces. Very mild misalignment can sometimes be corrected in as little as six months.

Will My Teeth Stay
Straight Forever?

Once treatment is finished, your smile will remain balanced with the use of a retainer, which should be worn at night. In many cases, you can simply continue to wear the final aligner in the series as a retainer. If needed, we can also create a custom retainer for you.

What Do I Need to Know About Invisalign Costs?
An investment in a balanced, healthy-looking smile is worth every penny.
The final treatment cost will depend on the severity of your misalignment and the number of aligners in your plan. Invisalign is comparable cost-wise to regular braces.
Many insurance policies will contribute to the cost of Invisalign. Talk to our knowledgeable staff to discuss costs, potential coverage, and other aspects of treatment.
FAQ About Invisalign Treatment
Can I combine other cosmetic dentistry with Invisalign?
Yes, you can pair Invisalign with other cosmetic dentistry treatments if our dentists think that you are a good candidate. One common pairing with Invisalign is teeth whitening. We can also conduct your orthodontic treatment as part of a smile makeover.
Do I need to see an orthodontist for Invisalign?
No, you don't. Our dentists have the experience and training to conduct Invisalign. In fact, Dr. Wong has completed a focused Invisalign program, while Dr. Lee prides herself on pursuing continuing education in the field of cosmetic dentistry.
How often will I need to visit for checkups?
Generally, you'll return to our welcoming Vancouver office every six weeks for a routine checkup. This allows us to see how your progress is going, and make any adjustments needed.
