What Are Veneers?
A veneer is an ultra-thin yet ultra-strong ceramic shell that covers the entire front of a tooth. This means it can conceal multiple cosmetic dental flaws at once, like chips, tooth stains, and even minor gaps.
Most veneers are made of porcelain. Our Vancouver, BC, dentists favor IPS e.max®, a newer type of porcelain material with even more durability than traditional porcelain. These dental restorations can last for 15 years or more.
One of the best things about veneers is how customizable they are. We can color-match your e.max porcelain veneers to your natural tooth shade, or we can help you select a shade that beautifully brightens your smile.

Instant Smile Improvement
This cosmetic procedure can instantly hide most physical flaws on compromised teeth. Often, veneers can conceal more than one imperfection on a single tooth.
Brighter-Looking Teeth
Veneers provided by our Vancouver, BC, office can enhance teeth affected by stains that don't respond to professional whitening.
Long-Lasting Investment
With proper brushing and flossing, our top-grade porcelain veneers can protect and improve the look of your teeth for 15 years or longer. It is best not to bite into ice, objects like pens, or hard foods with your veneers.
Natural-Looking Results
Our dentists are highly trained in designing customized veneers made from porcelain to blend in seamlessly with the shade, shape, and size of your existing teeth.
Boosted Confidence
A healthy-looking smile after veneers are placed can give you more confidence in social and professional situations. After all, your smile is the first thing people notice about you.
Candidacy for Porcelain Veneers
/
You may be an excellent candidate for porcelain veneers if you:
- Have sufficient tooth enamel
- Do not grind your teeth
- Are free of gum disease and tooth decay
- Have only minor gaps or misalignment
The Dental Veneers Timeline
This virtually painless procedure usually takes two appointments once you've had your comprehensive oral exam with one of our dentists at Norris Dental.
Does It Hurt to Receive Dental Veneers?
/
Because we use local anesthesia, and because veneers only require a small amount of enamel to be removed, placement is virtually painless. If you feel any pain, please inform your dentist so they can address any discomfort immediately.
Are Veneers Permanent?
Though porcelain will wear over time, dental veneers typically last 15 years or longer. Eventually, you will need to replace older porcelain veneers, as they are more likely to chip, crack, or sustain other damage. Because your tooth has been altered to accommodate the veneer, it will always require some sort of restoration. Our Vancouver dentists will be here to refresh your smile when the time comes.

Caring for your veneers is easy:
Brush your teeth at least twice a day, floss at least once each day, and visit your dentist for your regular exams and cleanings.
Though the porcelain is durable, limit or avoid especially sticky or hard foods such as caramel or ice.
To prevent damage to your new smile, it is best to bite hard foods like raw vegetables and tough meats with teeth that do not have a veneer. This will help ensure that your porcelain is not damaged or pulled from the tooth.
Does Insurance Cover Veneers?
/
Because veneers are considered cosmetic, insurance providers will not cover this treatment. The cost will vary depending on the number of veneers you need to achieve your cosmetic goals, and whether you need preparatory treatments before your veneers can be placed. During your consultation, your dentist will develop a treatment plan, and we can then provide an accurate cost estimate.
Not Sure if Veneers Are Right for You? Explore These Cosmetic Alternatives
Dental Bonding
A quicker, less invasive, and less expensive cosmetic dentistry procedure, dental bonding is when a dentist applies several very thin layers of tooth-colored resin to the front surface of a tooth to conceal minor flaws.
Dental bonding may be right for you if you only want to conceal small chips or cracks, or if you want to see a “preview” of what your veneer results may look like without committing to permanent treatment.
Dental Crowns
A dental crown covers the entirety of a tooth above the gumline, while a porcelain veneer only covers the front surface. Crowns are primarily used for restorative purposes, but they offer great cosmetic benefits as well.
Dental crowns may be right for you if you have a tooth with both structural and cosmetic flaws, such as a large filling and a misshapen appearance. As with veneers, we can customize dental crowns to best flatter your smile.
Teeth Whitening
A professional teeth whitening treatment can undo years of surface-level tooth stains in a single appointment. Our Vancouver dentists use a powerful whitening solution in combination with a UV light for optimal results.
Teeth whitening may be right for you if tooth stains are your primary cosmetic concern. If you have intrinsic (beneath the enamel) staining, which cannot be addressed by whitening, we’re ready to discuss alternative options.
For a Comprehensive Transformation Consider a Complete Smile Makeover
If you have multiple cosmetic goals, a smile makeover can give you comprehensive results. This custom combination of cosmetic treatments can upgrade every dimension of your smile. If you have oral health issues, we can also incorporate restorative treatments such as dental implants and dental crowns to give your beautiful new smile a healthy foundation. At Norris Dental, we provide a variety of treatment options to fit your dental care needs.
